CAHSPR Student Working Group Announces New Funding Opportunity - Apply Now!

CAHSPR’s Student Working Group (SWG) is taking it up a notch this year with a new funding opportunity for trainees taking place right at the annual CAHSPR conference!

WHAT? The CAHSPR SWG will be hosting a Dragons’ Den competition and awarding the top team with a $1,000 grant to conduct a small innovative project under the theme: informing accessible and equitable health systems in Canada. SIX teams will compete for the prize.

WHO? Teams can have up to a maximum of TWO trainees and ONE mentor. Trainees include: current graduate students, postdocs, early career researchers, and recent graduates outside academia (e.g., those who have graduated and taken up non-academic roles within the last five years). Mentors include: established researchers, leaders in non-academic positions (e.g., government, non-profit, corporate) related to health services and policy.

WHEN? The competition will take place on May 14th from 3:30-4:45 pm in-person at the CAHSPR conference. The trainee(s) MUST be available in-person to present. Mentors are encouraged to participate in-person but this is optional.

PRESENTATIONS AND JUDGING: Presentations will be 3-minute pitches with up to 5 minutes of questions. At least 2 of the 3 minutes must be presented by the trainee(s). Pitches will be judged by three leaders in research and policy: Dr. Bryan Stirling, Dr. Meredith Vanstone, and Dr. Jennifer Zelmer. The average of judges’ scores will be used to select the top team.

I’M INTERESTED! Please fill out this expression-of-interest form below by May 5, 2024

Proposals will be blind reviewed by members of the CAHSPR SWG and the six selected teams will be contacted via email by May 7, 2024.

Please direct any questions to swg@cashpr.ca. We can’t wait to hear about your projects!

Launching CAHSPR’s Mentorship Program

We have heard from the HSPR community about how valuable this will be and we have consulted with our partners in the UK, Australia and New Zealand and the United States to learn from their experiences and we believe we have created a stellar mentorship program that will be launched at CAHSPR24. There will be many opportunities at the conference to learn more, and to sign up as a mentor or a mentee. Be sure to renew your CAHSPR membership so you can be part of this exciting initiative!

Visit the Patient and Caregiver Hub

At CAHSPR we are fully committed to the inclusion of those with lived experience in the HSPR research agenda in Canada. We will have a Patient and Caregiver Hub that will serve a number of purposes. The hub will provide a space for caregivers and patients to meet and to connect with each other. We are very excited about an innovative approach to engagement in the hub that we are planning. Researchers can sit down and talk to an experienced patient/caregiver partner about their research. This will facilitate the sharing of ideas about how to set a new standard for creating an engagement capable environment in the HSPR community. Experienced patient partners from the Patient Advisors Network (PAN) are partnering with CAHSPR in this initiative and PAN members are looking forward to meeting with researchers during the conference. While at the conference, sign up to meet with them – you’ll be glad you did.
