Background & Purpose
The Student Working Group (SWG) is a pan-Canadian, student-run, voluntary group. The SWG was formed in 2008 to enhance and facilitate graduate student and postdoctoral fellow (also referred to as “trainees”) involvement in the annual CAHSPR conference and in the health services and policy research (HSPR) community. The SWG works to achieve its mission through the following:
- Encourage and facilitate networking opportunities between trainees and other members of the HSPR community (e.g., researchers, administrators, policymakers, funding organizations, etc.);
- Identify and disseminate news and information of interest to trainees, including but not limited to information on key issues in HSPR, HSPR-related conferences, awards and a special focus on career-related opportunities;
- Advance the mission of the SWG and CAHSPR by increasing trainee presence and involvement at CAHSPR events; and
- Promote and implement educational sessions and opportunities that help trainees develop the skills and competencies needed to thrive as members of the HSPR community.
In the past, SWG-led initiatives have included grant writing workshops, networking and mentorship events, a career panel, student social nights, a guidebook on scientific publishing and much more!
