The Environmental Monitoring and Science Division is responsible for monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the condition of Alberta's environment. We also assess the effectiveness of environmental policy, legislation and regulations, and address priority environmental information needs identified by internal and external stakeholders. Our activities are guided by advice from two independent bodies: a Science Advisory Panel and an Indigenous Wisdom Advisory Panel. The Division consists of four branches: Environmental Monitoring and Observations; Indigenous Knowledge, Community Monitoring, and Citizen Science; Integrated Environmental Analytics and Predictions; and Science.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator represents Environmental Monitoring and Science Division (EMSD), including all OH&S aspects of EMSD operational program delivery and program coordination. Drawing on your specialized knowledge of health and safety, you will function as the local internal workplace safety resource and ambassador. The focus of the role is to conduct audits on OH&S related activities; measure, evaluate and report on program performance; provide a wide range of OH&S and workplace consultation, advice and information to divisional management and staff on safety legislation, regulations, operational policies, programs, procedures; conduct inspections; and coordinate and facilitate safety training. This position plays a key role in hazards management and significant incident investigations, and facilitates the implementation of OH&S initiatives in the Division within the Ministry plan.
In this role, you will primarily be working in an office setting located in a region. You will have regular and on-going contact with regional staff and management, ministry peers, ministry specialists, other ministries and external stakeholders. Travel will be required to effectively support the priority work of the Division.
Salary: $2,588.03 to $3,394.66 bi-weekly ($67,547 to $88,600 annually). Job ID #1047127.

DEVELOP NETWORKS as the position facilitates the implementation of OH&S initiatives in EMSD within the Ministry plan with functional guidance from departmental Occupational Health and Safety and Business Continuity representatives. The position also liaises with GoA OH&S peers, AEP Human Resources, Public Service Commission, Service Alberta, WCB and associated external resources.
This position may be used to fill future vacancies across the Government of Alberta, at equal or lower classification and salary. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.
