The Strategy and Policy Division provides legislation, and policy development, to ensure Alberta's workplaces are safe, fair, and healthy. Working with employers, labour associations, safety associations, and workers directly, this division ensures workplace-related legislation responds to the needs of Alberta's workers and employers.

The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Policy and Program Development branch is responsible for Alberta's overall OHS Policy Framework.

As the Occupational Hygienist, you would be considered a provincial specialist on occupational hygiene and radiation issues in the workplace. You would be responsible for leading the Workplace Health and Safety Asbestos Program. You would also provide an occupational hygiene perspective and expertise in reviewing or interpreting the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act, Regulation and Code, and Radiation Protection Act and Regulation. You would act as Director of Hygiene as defined under the OHS Act and Director of Radiation as defined under the Radiation Protection Act.

To be successful in this position you have in-depth expertise in the area of occupational health and hygiene and a broad knowledge of occupational health and safety. You have the ability to write policy documents, facilitate meetings and manage projects or programs. You also must be able to respond to stakeholders where there are multiple agendas and varying perspectives.


Salary: $3,566.40 - $ 4,103.64 bi-weekly ($93,083 - $107,105 annually). Closing Date: October 1, 2017. Job ID #1044979.   


Qualifications: A university degree in a related field and a certificate in Occupational Hygiene coupled with a minimum of 3 years of related experience in occupational hygiene is required.

Preference will be given to candidates who either possess or are willing to register with the Canadian Board of Occupational Hygiene or its American equivalent. Experience in drafting policy documents, exposure to policy analysis and/or development would be considered an asset.
