The Department of Family Medicine ( in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary, in partnership with  the O’Brien Institute for Public Health (OIPH:  invites applications for a tenure-track position, at the Assistant Professor level, to develop an independent research program in clinical, population health or health service research related to the field of Models of Care.   Joint appointments may be provided to the Department of Community Health Sciences ( ), the Department of Emergency Medicine , or the Department of Psychiatry ( ). 


Alignment of the research interests with the priorities of the University of Calgary and the 2015-2020 Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) strategic plan ( ) is an asset. In particular, the research interests should align with the CSM’s Precision Medicine priority and the OIPH’s Translational Precision Medicine plan, aimed at delivering precision discoveries to patients and populations.


We are seeking a researcher with expertise in the development of innovative approaches to transitions in levels of care and decreasing upstream pressure on acute care resources, as well as finding new ways of facilitating discharge back to the community. The research agenda will aim at creating new paradigms of chronic disease care that ensure that the right patients consistently receive the right treatments, at the right time. This work will integrate with the O’Brien Institute’s “Enhanced Health Systems Performance” theme. 


Qualifications include a PhD or equivalent, and certification in an appropriate professional association, if relevant. The applicant will have demonstrated success at obtaining National level grants as a Principal Investigator and a high-level scientific publication track record. The position provides 85% protected time for research and will also include teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. This is an excellent opportunity to develop an independent externally-funded research program, within an outstanding collaborative environment. Startup packages are available through the Department of Family Medicine and the OIPH.
