About the Role

Working as a part of a team, the Senior Analyst is responsible for carrying out a range of activities that contribute to the development and production of analytic and performance measurement products that inform health system and population health improvement. Major responsibilities include critically reviewing literature, synthesizing research information, researching data sources, undertaking analyses, conducting quality assurance activities, and communicating analysis for a variety of audiences. The Senior Analyst will assist with other project activities, such as knowledge translation and capacity building, as needed.

We are looking for individuals who can contribute to:

  1. Develops and conducts analyses by identifying data sources, supporting the development of appropriate methodologies, and produces analysis on a broad range of data types (e.g., administrative and survey data).
  2. Interprets and writes analytical results for reports, prepares figures (e.g. tables, graphs, infographics), presentations, briefing notes and other written information as required.
  3. Works within CIHI’s quality assurance guidelines and contributes to producing high quality and comprehensive documentation.
  4. Identifies credible and objective evidence, data resources and analytic requirements for scoping new projects and development of analytical products. Critically assesses published literature for relevancy and quality.
  5. Delivers presentations and represents CPHI/CIHI internally and externally as required (e.g. workshops, conferences, committees).
  6. Participates in internal and external projects and activities as required.
  7. Provides mentoring and training to junior analysts and CPHI staff.
  8. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of key population health and CIHI data sources, analyses, indicators, research techniques, emerging issues and policy initiatives related to the field of population health and health system performance.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Graduate degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics, health, social sciences, health economics or related field.  A Graduate degree is an asset.
  • Three to five years of experience working in a research environment involved in data analysis of large datasets (administrative and survey).
  • Strong conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to conceptualize research questions and develop analysis plans.
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Strong written communication skills with experience in interpreting and writing results of analysis and synthesizing research and technical information (e.g. statistical and descriptive reports).
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong project coordination skills and experience.  
  • Advanced knowledge and experience conducting analyses using statistical software such as Statistical Analysis System (SAS).
  • Familiarity with CIHI databases (e.g. DAD, NACRS, NPDUIS, MIS Costing) and Statistics Canada data (e.g., CCHS) holdings.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian health system, health system performance indicators, health inequalities measurement, the determinants of health, and the use of health system information for planning, management and improvement purposes
  • Advanced experience working with MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Experience with Reference Manager or other reference management software.
  • Ability to work effectively both autonomously and as a part of a team within a matrix environment.
  • Fluency in both official languages is preferred.
