SURVEY REQUEST: Nutrition and Mental Health Research Priorities

September 19, 2013

Dietitians of Canada, the Canadian Mental Health Association, Ontario and the University of British Columbia are partnering on a national project to develop and prioritize research questions to improve nutrition practice in community mental health.

The research questions will be created through a process that engages all stakeholders. You are a stakeholder if you:

  • or someone in your family lives with a mental health condition
  • are a registered dietitian
  • are a mental health service provider (e.g., case manager, psychiatrist, peer supporter, executive director, crisis counsellor, housing support worker, volunteer, etc.)
  • are a health professional (e.g., nurse, social worker, occupational therapist, etc.) who works in a community setting and/or with clients who have mental health conditions
  • are a teacher of food and life skills
  • work in public policy or advocate to improve the mental health system in Canada
  • are a researcher or post-secondary student with an interest in mental health and nutrition, food security, or related issues

The primary goal of the Dietitians and Community Mental Health project is to identify key areas of research that will benefit people living with mental health conditions and their family members by creating the knowledge needed to advance policy and practice, to promote access to quality dietetic services for people with mental health conditions in their communities, and to evaluate impact and outcomes of community-based healthy eating programs.
