Bariatric Care (Management of Severe Obesity)

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:
- Advance comparative health services research and knowledge translation in bariatric care to improve the management of severe obesityacross the continuum of care, from primary care to tertiary care. This includes bariatric surgery as well as medical management of severe obesity in adults as well as children and youth, where applicable, across the continuum of care, from primary care to tertiary care. Research under this objective may include consideration of ethical issues, patient values and expectations, and familial and social impacts associated with bariatric surgery and the medical management of severe obesity.
- Improve current understanding of mechanisms underlying the benefits of bariatric procedures and how they result in diabetes remission (recognizing that the durability of the diabetes remission is still an unanswered question) and weight loss.
Funds available - $4,750,000 for approximately three team grants
Maximum amount per grant - $300,000/year
Grant duration - Five years
