Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care (Waypoint) provides extensive inpatient and outpatient tertiary mental health and addiction services to a population of more than 500,000, as the regional mental health hospital for Simcoe County, Muskoka and portions of Dufferin County and Parry Sound. Waypoint is the province’s only mental health hospital that, in addition to the provision of mental health programs for the regional community, has 160 high secure beds for clients served by both the mental health and justice systems. Reporting to the Vice President, Research and Academics, the Director, Research (Director) will assume overall responsibility for the administration of the Waypoint Research Institute (WRI) with specific emphasis on the portfolio of Evidenced Based Practice (EBP) projects. The successful candidate will promote an organization-wide spirit of inquiry, curiosity and evidence-based practice improvement in alignment with Waypoint’s strategy, clinical services plan and quality improvement plan. The incumbent will actively promote and enhance Waypoint’s reputation through local, national and international networking efforts, as well as contribute to shaping and leading the development of a research vision and leading its effective implementation, while building capacity within Waypoint that can ultimately be translated into applied innovation. In addition to providing leadership for various research initiatives within Waypoint, the Director will also be supported in advancing his/her own program of research and active research interests.

The successful candidate will have a strong research background as well as in-depth understanding of scientific research processes and methodology. He/she should be familiar with grant funding application processes, and have a track record of leading research teams. An outstanding research leader committed to system performance and innovation, the successful candidate will also be an exceptional relationship developer capable of inspiring teams, peers and stakeholders. The successful candidate will have research training to a Doctoral level in the field of mental health and/or a related area. A faculty appointment with an academic institution would be an asset.
