Imagine building a collaborative research program aimed at improving the delivery of health care from the perspective of a community hospital, where 80% of hospital visits occur.
Candidates are sought to lead research and innovation in Process Improvement and Health Outcomes. The Research Chair(s) will join an organization experiencing rapid growth and work alongside the Gordon F. Cheesbrough Research Chair in Family and Community Medicine and leader of the University of Toronto Practice-Based Research Network (UTOPIAN), the Research Chair in Knowledge Translation and Implementation, and the Badeau Family Research Chair in Patient Safety and Quality Improvement. The Research Chair(s) will be appointed for a five-year term with the opportunity for renewal upon completion of a successful review. The effective date of appointment is expected to be January 1, 2017, or until the position is filled.
The ideal candidate(s) will have the skills necessary to plan and conduct research leading to innovation in delivery of health care in a community academic hospital setting with the goal of enhancing quality of care and outcomes at individual and system levels. It is expected that the Chair will report findings in peer-reviewed scientific literature; share evidence to support innovation with health care policy makers, planners, and the general public; recruit and mentor graduate students and other trainees and research staff; promote collaboration to leverage the strengths of NYGH with an extensive external network; obtain external funding to support students and research staff; engage staff and physicians to achieve tangible impact at NYGH, build capacity, and strengthen the culture of research and innovation.
The successful candidate for the Research Chair positions must hold an MD and/or Ph.D. degree or equivalent; be eligible to apply for an academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto; have a distinguished reputation in research related to the delivery of health care, with a track record of extramural funding as a principal investigator, peer-reviewed publications, and other innovative accomplishments; proven skills in leadership, mentorship, and student supervision; and demonstrated productivity in collaborative research.
