The Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, a Faculty of the University of Toronto, invites applications for one Contractually Limited Term Appointment in the area of Biostatistics and Clinical Data Evaluation. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor and will commence on July 1, 2016.

We seek candidates who have earned a Ph.D. degree in biostatistics or mathematical statistics with an emphasis on statistical models of treatment effects in chronic hepatitis B and C, PBC/PSC and liver transplantation. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated record of excellence in international research and teaching with a proven ability to lead international collaborative research programs and clinical trials within a multi-country sites environment in the field of hepatology. The successful candidate should have a strong record of publications (original peer-reviewed) and a demonstrated ability to compete and attract research funding from international sponsors.

The successful candidate will teach courses in the area of biostatistics/medical statistics and will provide mentorship to research stream students. IHPME is the largest and most prestigious Institute of its kind in Canada. With a goal to increase its global visibility, IHPME is a wellspring of opportunity, learning and innovation integrating a broad range of health care stakeholders to drive intellectual exchange and transform how people think about health care and what they do to improve it.

This position will be funded through the University Health Network, Toronto Centre for Liver Disease (TCLD), one of the largest liver units in North America which cares for patients with many types of liver diseases, including hepatitis B and hepatitis C, alcoholic liver disease, fatty liver disease, autoimmune liver diseases and other more rare diseases like Wilson’s disease and is home to the largest live donor liver program in North America and one of the highest volume deceased donor programs.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to form and maintain active research collaborations in the area of new statistical techniques and methodologies in the medical science, big data mining as well as multi-disciplinary collaborative research addressing a wide range of hepatology topics.
