Department of Health Sciences

Wilfrid Laurier University
Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Wilfrid Laurier University is pleased to announce a search for a Tier II Canada Research Chair (CRC) to join the Department of Health Sciences, in the Faculty of Science. The department is seeking to nominate a CRC in program and policy evaluation of our health systems. The successful candidate will be appointed in the Department of Health Sciences at an academic rank commensurate with experience.

The ideal candidate will be an exceptional emerging scholar with a PhD, who is recognized as an emerging leader in their field. The successful individual will have an outstanding track record of research that evaluates programs and policies that address system-wide determinants, including preventive and curative interventions. We are looking for someone who is working to foster innovative approaches to practice by developing methods and theory in the evaluation sciences. The ideal candidate will have developed an already successful program of research in this field, and have a strong capacity to attract competitively awarded research funding, from the Tri-Council Agencies in particular. Ideally, the candidate will have a proven record of multi-year research funding.

The selected candidate will have a history of active engagement in interdisciplinary research partnerships, and will be expected to take a key leadership role in collaborative research partnerships at Laurier, nationally and internationally.  The selected candidate will strengthen the reputation of Laurier as a major centre for the study of health systems, program and policy evaluation in Canada and abroad.  In addition, the selected candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, mentorship and supervision and will contribute to both undergraduate and graduate programs at Laurier.

The Department of Health Sciences at Laurier is multidisciplinary in its focus, and aims to foster a cell-to-society approach to the study of human health and well-being. The Department includes faculty from the natural sciences and those applying social science theories and methods to health issues. There are opportunities for strong research collaborations across all of Laurier’s campuses and in particular with faculty in the Balsillie School of International Affairs and the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics.  The successful candidate will also be expected to have a strong program in supporting highly qualified personnel among the vibrant student community throughout Laurier. As a growing department, there are opportunities for program and curriculum development in Health Sciences.

Applications should be received by February 28, 2016. The successful candidate will be required to participate in the preparation of a CRC nomination package for submission by October 24, 2016.  An appointment to Laurier may precede the submission of the nomination package, or can be made contingent on a successful nomination.
