The School of Public Health, University of Alberta, is seeking to fill a tenure-track position in the area of health policy. The appointment will be at the assistant professor level; however, an outstanding candidate may be appointed at the associate level.
To be considered, a candidate must have a PhD degree and proficiency in public health with expertise or training in one or more of the following: health services research, political science, sociology, health economics, public administration or other relevant disciplines. The applicant must have knowledge of the Canadian health system, including the role of public health. In addition, applicants must have a track record of high quality outputs that demonstrate potential for independent research and success in peer-reviewed grant applications, a demonstrated aptitude for teaching graduate courses in health policy theory, research methods and practice, and evidence of an ability to work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment. Relevant post-doctoral experience, a history of policy practice or evidence of engaged scholarship would be an asset.
The successful candidate will approach scholarship from a theoretical framework with relevance to practice while developing a public health policy research program that attracts peer reviewed funding and builds relationships for engaged scholarship with communities of practice, including practitioners in the health system. She/he will supervise thesis-based graduate students (MSc and PhD), and develop and teach graduate courses in health policy that present a blend of theory and practice.
