Deadline: August 15, 2014
The Evidence Network of Canadian Health Policy, commonly known as EvidenceNetwork.ca, is a non-partisan, web-based project funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Manitoba Health Research Council to make the latest evidence on controversial health policy issues available to the media. The project links journalists with health policy experts to provide access to credible, evidence-based information, and creates original Op-Eds, articles, infographics, posters, podcasts and videos on health policy topics for publication in the mainstream media.
Interns are expected to work with EvidenceNetwork.ca experts and evidence to write original articles, backgrounders and commentaries or to create dynamic videos, infographics and podcasts under the direction of EvidenceNetwork.ca for publication and distribution in major media outlets across Canada. Interns will work in co-operation with EvidenceNetwork.ca to determine genre, topic, style and length/duration of their project(s) during their tenure. Upon completion of the internship, the intern should have had several articles, videos or podcasts on pressing health policy issues published both in the mainstream media and reproduced on the EvidenceNetwork.ca website (www.evidencenetwork.ca).
Candidates must be Canadian graduates trained in journalism, communications or related fields. An interest and working-knowledge of health and public policy related issues is required. Strong writing skills are essential. Preference will be given to candidates who are familiar and engaged with a wide range of social media tools and who have skills in video, audio or design software. Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset. Interns must submit their resumé and reasons for applying to EvidenceNetwork.ca, along with two writing, video, podcast or infographic samples.
The internship will begin on October 1, 2014 and run until April 1, 2015 and require part-time hours. Interns are not required to relocate for the internship, but may work remotely from any location. The internship is paid a flat rate of $12,000 (paid in monthly installments over the work period).
Interviews with potential candidates will take place by telephone during the week of September 8, 2014. Decisions will be communicated to the candidates before September 22, 2014.
